What is audience analysis

Audience analysis is the new consumer research. At this point, most if not all of your current and potential customers are on social media.

In other words, social listening is a shortcut to reliable consumer insights minus the hassle. If you're convinced as is, I invite you on an audience analysis journey.

Audience Analysis in Speech and Composition

Together, we'll explore the ways to use social listening for consumer research. And so on. Audience research can be as broad or as narrow as you prefer, stretching from the location of your customer base to factors like political alliances and stances in public debates. The one place where all of this information is publicly available is social media. It's essentially the world's largest database of consumer insights, with every age group represented in sufficient quantities.

Once you've settled on a toolkit, audience analysis is underway as social media monitoring and listening is everything you'll need to get reliable results. Audience analysis is the cornerstone of any business strategy. Naturally, the list is not exhaustive and you discover more and more use cases of audience analysis as you go. Depending on the results of your initial audience analysis, you can decide how much further you need to go with researching particular audience groups.

Here, you need to decide on the keywords your social listening tool will be tracking. Your first choice is your brand name, then go product or campaign names.

This way, you'll expand audience analysis to the users not yet aware of your brand but already researching your product category. Give your social listening tool some time to process enough data and go right for the audience analytics.

The dashboard is where all major social listening insights live. In addition to that, when you have several brands in your social listening project, you're able to benchmark their analytics against each other. The dashboard is populated with solid insights into brand reputation and the amount of brand-related queries generated on social.

Depending on the alerts you choose to examine, dashboard analytics will be different. Gender is Awario's newest audience demographic analytics that gives you an understanding of your customer demographics.

If you're a global brand serving locations all over the world, make sure you include every variation of your brand name in different languages to get comprehensive monitoring results and a well-populated map. If you set up mentions monitoring in multiple languages, social listening tools give you a breakdown of the mentions' languages. Language insights, much like location insights, are valuable for understanding your audiences, improving targeting, and checking real demand for your products or services across different market segments.

This post covers how brands can use audience analysis to create more successful marketing campaigns and advertising. Today, brands understand the importance of targeted marketing. With all of the advertising and marketing technology available, targeting the audience of your choice is the easy part.

What kind of messaging and content should you use for specific groups? What type of campaign will generate the most engagement with this audience? An example of a brand who recently answered these difficult questions with social media data comes from Fender.

Before launch, they needed to determine the right audience to target and best type of campaign to engage them. Audience analysis allowed Fender to pinpoint the target audience for the campaign and determine what they liked most about Flea and the Chili Peppers.

The campaign asked fans to share a photo of their own unique musical style for a chance to win the new bass, with Flea himself picking the winner. The campaign was a massive success because they made a point to understand their audience first.

what is audience analysis

In the past, gaining an understanding of your audience could only be accomplished by spending a lot of time and money on surveys and market research firms.

In consumer insights, audience analysis refers to researching the interests, preferences, demographic, location, and other aspects of a group.

Audience analysis

Branded analysis means looking at the audience for a specific brand Apple, Microsoft, etc while unbranded analysis looks at the audience for the type of product and related topics computers, tablets, technology, etc. For businesses, the best audience analysis gives you deeper understanding of what compels consumers to support a brand or make a purchase.

For example, if a coffee chain wants to attract and retain more customers, knowing the demographics of coffee drinkers in key locations is only the first piece of the puzzle.

what is audience analysis

Analyzing the specific coffee preferences of that audience and how they have changed over time can give the brand much more actionable insights on how to engage consumers. The deeper, customized analysis could reveal that a trend like a preference for cold brew coffee is spreading rapidly within the target audience.

An insight like this is actionable because it helps brands make informed decisions about updates to improve their menu and advertising. Audience analysis can take many forms. For example, both sentiment analysis and image analysis could be used to gain a deeper understanding of your target audience.

what is audience analysis

One of the simplest insights to gain about an audience is location. You can identify where people are discussing a brand, product, or any other topic. You can also filter other analysis results by location to better understand an audience in a specific place.

Is the audience mostly male or female? What is the age breakdown for the audience? These questions help you gain some basic knowledge about the audience you are analyzing. Learning what an audience cares about is key to understanding its members.

Understanding your existing audience is the first step to identifying opportunities to expand your audience. For example, Fender know their audience was mostly older males.

This led them to identify the opportunity to reach female guitar players. After assuming that most guitar playing women would be interested in acoustic guitar, an analysis specifically looking at the guitar buying conversation among women showed something different. Many of the women are interested in electric guitars, punk rock, and finding the money to get to make a guitar purchase.Self-centric speakers deliver the speech they want to give, without concern for who is in the target audience or what they may be thinking, feeling, or wanting.

Audience-centric speakers deliver the speech which the audience wants to hear, using words, concepts, stories, and visuals which will resonate with audience members and lead them to action.

But how do you know what the audience wants to hear? How do you know what will resonate with them? How do you know what they are thinking? Audience analysis is the process of learning who your audience is, what they are thinking, and how you can best reach them. If done well, your audience analysis will provide insights that will help you focus your message, select the most effective content and visuals, and tailor your delivery to suit this particular target audience.

Depending on your topic and message, some of the following questions will be relevant and some will not:. Finally, consider how you relate to the audience with respect to several of the characteristics above:. The aim of psychological audience analysis is to discover what your audience may be thinking before and during your presentation.

Psychological analysis covers both the knowledge or lack of knowledge and the beliefs of your audience. In rare circumstances, you are able to meet privately with each audience member before your presentation and learn about them and their expectations.

However, this is rarely practical. So, you are usually required to infer a great deal from your audience analysis instead. You talk to individual people, and no two people in your audience are identical. While the individuals in your audience may be similar in many ways, there will always be a range of characteristics: a range of knowledge levels, a range of beliefs, a range of expectations, etc.

Even the best audience analysis will have a degree of uncertainty. In subsequent articles in this series, we look at how to conduct audience analysis and how to incorporate what you learn to improve your presentations.

On the other hand, mandatory attendees may require extra effort on your part to motivate. What has the audience been going through in the days or weeks prior to your speech? Have their been layoffs at the company?

Has everyone been dealing with the impact of a storm?Audience analysis is a task that is often performed by technical writers in a project's early stages.

what is audience analysis

It consists of assessing the audience to make sure the information provided to them is at the appropriate level. The audience is often referred to as the end-userand all communications need to be targeted towards the defined audience.

Defining an audience requires the consideration of many factors, such as age, culture and knowledge of the subject. After considering all the known factors, a profile of the intended audience can be created, allowing writers to write in a manner that is understood by the intended audience.

Audience analysis involves gathering and interpreting information about the recipients of oralwrittenor visual communication. There are numerous methods that a technical communicator can use to conduct the analysis.

Because the task of completing an audience analysis can be overwhelming, using a multi-pronged approach to conduct the analysis is recommended by most professionals, often yielding improved accuracy and efficiency. Michael Albers suggests that an analysis use several independent strategies that work together, such as reader knowledge of the topic and reader cognitive comprehension.

Writers can also use conversations, in-depth interviews or focus groups to help them to complete an audience analysis. Conversation as well as other qualitative research techniques will allow the communicator to consider the multiple cultural, disciplinary, and institutional contexts of their target audience, producing a valuable audience analysis. David L. Carson of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute asserted that technical communicators most often perform their jobs with little or no knowledge about their audience.

Carson states that the analysis should include a reader's level of comprehension of the technical vocabulary and motivation, as well as reading level. Indicators of a reader's high level of motivation include high interest in the subject matter, relatively high knowledge of the content, and high personal stakes in mastering the information.

Another technique used to conduct an audience analysis is the "bottom-up" approach. This particular document focused on the use of contraception and targeted the black youth of South Africa. The initial document was created by document designers in the United States who did not base their design on an extensive audience analysis.

As a result, the document, which used the informal slang of black South African youth, did not effectively communicate with its target audience. After the dissemination of the document, Van der Land used focus groups and interviews of a sample of the target audience to discover what improvements should be made.

Upon considering the audience's perspective, she found that the initial document's use of the hip-style language backfired. The interviewees indicated that the use of the popular language was not effective because it was not used correctly or consistently throughout the document.

Audience analysis: What is it and how to do it?

Additionally, to the target audience, the informal language did not fit the seriousness of the topic being discussed. The suggested "bottom-up" approach should have incorporated the target audience during the design process instead of as an afterthought. Marjorie Rush Hovde provides even more tactics that can be implemented in the process of an audience analysis in relation to one's organization. She suggests talking with users during phone support calls, interacting with users face-to-face, drawing on the writer's own experiences with the software and documentation, interacting with people within the organization, studying responses sent from users after the documentation is released, and conducting internal user testing. When printing this page, you must include the entire legal notice.

Your audience may consist of people who may have differing needs and expectations. In other words, you may have a complex audience in all the stages of your document's lifecycle—the development stage, the reading stage, and the action stage. Keep in mind that documents may not go through a clear, three-step process.

Instead, the lifecycle of your communication may consist of overlapping stages of evolution. User-centered writing calls for close cooperation between those who are composing the documents, those who will read and act upon the documents, and those who will be affected by the actions. Our team of tipsters will assess all the above in order to pick out the very best value bets for each game we cover.

Most free bets are matched, which means you have to deposit and bet the amount of the free bet first and then you will be credited with an equal amount to your account. This is a great bet tip because if you choose your bet carefully you can bet on a market with quite good odds that is normally a bit risky, but be covered if the bet loses. This is one of the best football betting tips for beginners. Teams like Manchester United or Chelsea occasionally have an off-game and this makes their odds shoot up for long term betting, E.

A good example of this was when Scolari went to Chelsea in 2008. The pre-season odds predicted that Manchester United were favourites to win the title again. However, they had a poor start to the season. Chelsea, on the contrary had a roaring start and all the football pundits were tipping them to go on and win the title. Everyone who had bet on United during the few weeks when their form dropped got great odds and won lots of money.

However, after the first game of the season when a few players have scored, the odds all change. If a more mediocre player has got a couple of goals in their first match, odds on him will then drop because more people are backing him to do well.

The big players usually go on and score lots of goals in the subsequent matches, and the people who bet on them after one or two games rather than before the season often win more money. After a while you will get used to noticing these football betting tips yourself. If a team or player has a reputation of being good in the long term, use this reputation for your long term bet predictions. These are premiership football betting tips, but can be applied to any league or competition, and even other sports.

This is the same as saying there will be 2 goals or under, or 3 goals and over. So why is this a good bet to place.

This is a great bet to place because it gives you more chance to win and makes the odds better in big games. Using Manchester United and Chelsea againif these two teams are playing each other, the odds are likely to be quite low for each team, with a possibility of a draw as well. Another reason why this betting tip works so well is that you can actually calculate and predict the outcomes by adding together the average goals scored by each team from all other games they have played in the current season.Renate Lofoten and the Fjords - by Cruise and Rail, July 2015 Bjarni was excellent, thorough, and very responsive.
